Billy Bruce Grace, 89, passed away on August 3, 2024 at his apartment in Kansas City, MO. He was born on March 11, 1935, in Concordia, MO to Allie and Stella Grace. He attended Central Missouri State University, and continued on to serve in the 7th Army Band, posted in Germany. While in Germany, he married his college sweetheart, Elinor “Annie” Annabelle Corn, on December 30th, 1958. They shared a happy life together for 60 years before Ann passed in 2019. They had four children together, Gretchen, Andrea, Todd, and infant Joseph.
Following his service in the Army, he served as the Choir Director at Grandview High School from 1959-1969, and then at Oak Park High School from 1969-1993. He also served the congregations at Colonial Presbyterian Church, Gashland United Presbyterian Church, and North Cross United Methodist Church as the music director.
He is known by many as “Papa G,” a teacher and friend whom all could trust and who would love them back unconditionally. He was a lion of love and character and will live on in the minds and hearts of those who knew him. His passion for music and excellence was matched by his passion for people.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Allie W. Grace, his grandson James Carter Grace, and his beloved Ann Grace.
He is survived by his children, Gretchen (Kim) Harrison, Andrea (Bill) Mack, Todd (Cheryl) Grace, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was beloved by all who know him, and will leave a hole in the hearts of the many nieces, nephews, friends, and students who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The funeral service will be held at Liberty United Methodist Church on Monday, August 12th, 2024, from 1:30-3:00pm. A visitation will be held prior to the service, from 9:00-11:30am, on Monday, August 12th.
The family is grateful for the love and care given by Tiffany Springs Senior Living Development—Assisted Care and Ascend Hospice of Kansas City.
