Janice Vlachos earned her Bachelor of Music from Belmont University in 1992. During her 30-year career as a high school choral director, 17 ensembles under her direction performed at the Colorado Music Educators Association (CMEA) Annual Conference.

She began teaching in Colorado in 1993 at Lyons Junior/Senior High School, later teaching at Wheat Ridge and Chatfield High Schools before returning in 2005 to Fairview High School in Boulder, her alma mater. There, she directed five choirs, taught a Zumba class, served as Fine Arts Department Chair, and produced the annual fall musical and spring Pops concerts.

Her SATB and SSA jazz ensembles performed at the JENerations Jazz Festival. In 2007, she founded Age of Guinevere, an SSAA vocal jazz ensemble that won the 2011 DownBeat Award for Large Jazz Groups and performed at the 2013 ACDA National Conference, the 2017 JEN Conference, and CMEA alongside Lauren Kinhan in 2020.

Ms. Vlachos is a member of CMEA, JEN, and ACDA, and has served in state and SWACDA Repertoire & Resources leadership roles. She co-taught at the University of North Texas Jazz Camp, contributed to Rehearsing the Vocal Jazz Ensemble (GIA), guest conducted the 2022 Oklahoma All-State Jazz Choir, and will conduct the 2026 Missouri All-State Jazz Choir. She served as COACDA President (2022–2024) and was inducted into the Colorado Music Educators Hall of Fame in 2025.

In retirement, Janice works as a clinician, is an accompanisit for a local choir and directs a 140-voice community choir in Boulder. She also enjoys family time, Pilates, games, cooking, reading, and gardening.

Note: MCDA does not offer refunds in the event the student cannot attend.

For safety reasons, all rehearsals are closed to the public. Only those who are official chaperones or registered members of the conference (including single day registration) are allowed in the rehearsal space. Please help us maintain the safety of our singers by adhering to these requirements.

For liability reasons, members are not supposed to be official chaperones. But in the event that there was no other option, members still need to register for the conference. Thank you for supporting the organization that supports these ensembles!
